CANON: Yuri!!! on Ice
CANON POINT: Post Episode 12
CANON INFORMATION: Here!
PERSONALITY:
ABILITIES: Yuri really is one of the best figures in the world, currently! It's a known fact that he's certainly a talented ice skater and shows that age isn't a measurement of one's talent. That's pretty much it, though.
Also he's pretty social media savvy so he'll be all up in that Instaclam.
INVENTORY:
- His skates, some spare laces, and his training outfit all in a duffle bag.
- This tiger shirt he really loves wearing. He likes cats.
- His cellphone.
MEMORY ALTERATION: Yuri believes that his grandfather picked him up after practicing with Viktor and Yuuri, and he fell asleep in the car. When he woke up, well, he wasn't expecting to be surrounded by a bunch of ugly fish.

Yuri Plisetsky misses home. At the very least, he could text Otabek or Yuuko; go on Instagram and look at more cat photos among other things; even practice with Viktor and Yuuri (if he's feeling that desperate). For all the trash he talks, he actually likes being among his competitors because they fuel his fire and get him to push himself beyond his limitations.
Here, on this stupid base, he has nobody.
Nobody who lives in his world. Nobody who understands what it means to land a Quadruple Salchow when you're twelve years old, or how the ice feels beneath your feet and barely gives you room to breathe--he almost feels like he's left his life behind by being here.
He's used to not having friends; but he had people who understood him. That was enough. Yuri has never felt such a grave loneliness before. He tries not to think about it too much but his feelings manifest in an even crabbier mood than usual. He spats at anyone who tries to get his attention and keeps his hoodie pulled up at all times. Some of the people on base dislike him; others seem to be intimidated; some don't get the hint and continuously try to break him open, just as Yuuri and Viktor did. But today, Yuri wants to be left alone, because ice skating is the only thing he's ever known.
The only thing he can do to ease his worries is try to find a home at the ice rink. It's small, sharing the space with the roller rink--why would you ever do that, he grimaces--and he hates how restricted he feels here. Ice rinks are supposed to feel like home. Yuri only feels trapped.
Still, he's disciplined enough to know that he can't grow complacent, even if he happens to be on another planet. The resources, however limited, are here. He at least needs to be practiced and prepared for when he returns home so Yakov and Lillia don't kick his ass for being sloppy.
Yuri puts his headphones into his ears and shuts out the rest of the world.

PERSONALITY:
The first glimpse we get of Yuri Plisetsky is a fairly accurate representation of his character: he's loud, abrasive, cranky, and rude as hell. He literally kicks open the bathroom door and yells at Yuuri Katsuki--who's crying after a disappointing performance--telling him that there can only be one 'Yuri' on the ice skating rink. He thinks Yuuri is pathetic from the get-go, and Yuri easily becomes somewhat of an antagonist.
Except the series goes on, and we see Yuri's view on Yuuri progressively changing. Yuri underestimates Yuuri, and in a competition to win Viktor over as their new coach, he loses, and this loss plagues him and greatly upsets him for part of the series. Yuri starts to see Yuuri as a rival and Viktor as a sore spot; partly because Viktor failed to make good on his promise that he would coach Yuuri, and partly because of his pride taking a hit after being beat by the Yuuri he saw crying in a bathroom stall.
Yuri shows antagonistic behavior towards the both of them after this, but his view on Yuuri changes from being one of an unworthy opponent to his greatest rival. He frequently calls the latter a pig, shows animosity whenever Viktor shows him any affection, and sulks whenever the two of them cheer him on. On the contrary, Yuri's rude remarks are usually brushed off by most people, probably because of how young he is; and it definitely pisses him off when he can't push people's buttons like he wants to.
But that doesn't mean that Yuri isn't a threat. Verbally, maybe not so much, but his skating speaks louder than his words. Yuri is essentially a prodigy, winning a gold medal in the Senior Grand Prix Final (GPF) on his Senior Debut and surpassing skaters who are much older than him. Yuri prides himself on his skating--rightfully so--and only seeks the best resources, determined to be the greatest skater in history. He is extremely competitive and will push his own limits to reach the top. He takes his career extremely seriously and doesn't allow anyone to get in his way, practicing diligently and forcing himself to grow better and better. For example, his biggest competition at one point is Jean-Jaques Leroy (known as JJ), known as the king of the ice and was the one skater Yuri had yet to beat. Yuri made changes to his programs to add more difficult jumps in order to raise his score so he had a chance at beating JJ. His competitors know just how good he is and do not underestimate him in the slightest.
This motivation and drive pushes Yuri to constantly grow as a skater, but he's also hard on himself as a result. He's never smiling or pleased whenever he's on the podium, always scowling and upset about not being his best or not placing third. Even when he wins the gold medal at GDF, Yuri is scowling on the podium because he was unable to beat Yuuri's free skate score, despite having just delivered a flawless performance and having won first place, what the hell Yuri.
Ironically, what actually gets him to evolve, as stated by Lillia, are the encounters he's had with other people. Initially, Yuri struggled with skating to Agape, mostly because it wasn't his style and he had trouble relating to the music--Yuuri got the song he wanted, and vice versa--but he started to discover what agape really meant after meeting his grandfather again. Yuri was expecting his grandfather to watch him perform at the Rostelecom Cup Short Program, but hears that he is unable to, disappointing Yuri; but nevertheless he appears before Viktor and Yuuri in his Agape outfit, stunning them both upon realizing that Yuri's finally found what agape means to him. However, by Yuri's final Agape performance, he's formed a friendship with Otabek; heard about Yuuri's potential retirement after winning a gold medal at the GPF; and received support from people like Yuuko. He dedicates his final free skate to all the people he's met--even Yuuri himself.
Yuuri is both a friend (whether Yuri will admit it or not) and a rival that Yuri wants to continue skating with on the rink. Consider that before hearing of Yuuri's retirement, Yuri reveled in knowing that he and some of the other skaters scored higher than him in the short program. However, hearing about Yuuri's retirement after getting gold actually angers Yuri and pushes him just enough for him to take the gold medal, scoring just a fraction of a point over Yuuri. He vows while skating to win the GPF so that Yuuri won't retire, letting his frustration manifest in the form of some incredible jumps and combinations. He even gives Yuuri a bag of katsudon pirozhkis for his birthday, showing that Yuri does care about Yuuri in his own tsundere way.
Because Yuri does have a softer side that only a few people ever get to see. Lillia is one of the only people he doesn't show any sass to, mostly out of respect and because she's incredibly strict and that probably. Intimidates him. Yuri has the same amount of respect for Yakov as well since he's his coach, though he's still rude as ever to him (which may be because he's comfortable). He texts Yuuko regularly and thinks of her during his free skate.
His relationship with Otabek is pretty simple: he'd never really spoken to Otabek, despite having trained in the same class before, until Otabek saves Yuri from his fans and they're able to talk one-on-one. They bond over having similarities in personality, and it is stated that Otabek was the first person to ever ask Yuri to be his friend. Yuri easily accepts and is openly supportive of him during his performances during the GPF; this is something we'd never seen from Yuri up until then.
However, the person he undoubtedly cares about the most is his grandfather. Yuri is notably more happy and more gentle around his grandfather, jumping on his back when he comes to pick Yuri up from the airport. When Yuri inadvertently insults his grandfather's pirozhkis--which aren't katsudon flavored--his grandfather gets upset, and Yuri instantly tries to make him feel better. This behavior is extremely surprising, considering how brash and uncaring he is towards most others in the series; but it's refreshing in that we get to see that Yuri does have a variety of emotions and is fully capable of forming relationships with other people. He's just. Not the best at it most of the time, is all.
Because Yuri is still young and still a teenager. He's moody and extremely temperamental because he wants to be at the top. He's put himself on a pedestal and as a teenager, that's a lot of pressure when you're competing with those with more experience and time on you; so his cantankerous personality is...pretty understandable. However, he's certainly not the same Yuri who yelled at Yuuri Katsuki to quit skating at the start of the series, and for him, the sky's the limit.
